Business Challenge

A large distribution company operating 8 warehouse yards had a disconnected yard management system that did not communicate with their WMS or TMS. Yard dwell times, dock utilization, and trailer inventory were managed on spreadsheets, causing dock scheduling conflicts and detention charges.

Solution & Approach

We integrated the YMS with the WMS and TMS via Kafka event streaming, landed all yard event data in Snowflake, and built dbt models for dock utilization, dwell time, and detention cost analytics. Power BI dashboards give yard managers real-time visibility and predictive dock scheduling recommendations.

Capabilities Delivered

  • YMS, WMS, and TMS integration via Kafka event streaming
  • Snowflake data lake for yard operations data
  • dbt models for dock and dwell analytics
  • Predictive dock scheduling recommendation engine
  • Detention cost tracking and carrier performance reporting

Business Outcomes

Average trailer dwell time decreased by 34%, and carrier detention charges dropped by $420K annually. Dock scheduling conflicts were eliminated within 60 days, improving inbound throughput by 22%.
